Proving once again her ability to exert control over her narrative – a skill that is absolutely required to maintain superstardom for more than a decade – a happy, beaming Jennifer Lopez was photographed repeatedly over the weekend in the Hamptons, with her stepdaughter Violet Affleck.

We’ve been feeling for a while that the divorce rumors were overstated, although we’d feel foolish making any predictions. Who knows what governs the lives of these people? Still, we don’t think Violet comes across like the kind of girl who would allow herself to be roped into a PR campaign on behalf of her dad’s marriage, nor do we think her mother would sign off on such a thing. Maybe we’re naive, but we take these shots pretty much at face value. Strategic, sure. Neither of them were naive about the likelihood of being photographed. But we don’t have a reason to think J Lo and Violet don’t have exactly the kind of relationship demonstrated by these shots. Jen’s look is casually cute, without any of the overwrought effort so much of her fashion tends to have.

Pose, girl. Pose for your LIFE. This is gorgeously elegant in a casual summer chic sort of way, although the bag feels a little dressy.
IN CHANEL
Adorable. You cannot fault this diva’s ability to control her image. Every shot looks like an ad, because on some level, she knows that every shot of her is a form of personal branding.
