Megs had herself a weekend! The British press had a fit about it, but Prince Harry and Meghan Duchess of Sussex were extremely well-received on their official (as in, they were invited by the government) tour of Nigeria as they made their way through an exhausting cycle of events. To our delight, the duchess stepped up her style game, bringing prints and color in to sit alongside her ever-present neutrals.

Sharp, crisp and photogenic. It’s a great day look and it’s also a great way to stand out for the crowd, knowing that most of the women around her would be in bold colors.

Members of the British press criticized her (as they are prone to reflexively doing) for wearing this “revealing” dress, but it’s only revealing if you’re applying the dress standards for royals preferred by the late Queen. Otherwise, there’s nothing shocking about what she’s wearing. Can’t have it both ways. Can’t shriek that they’re no longer royal and then try to hold them to a royal standard. Anyway, it’s nice to see her in a print.

Another unassailable, safely photogenic choice. It’s not very exciting, but they’re very nicely coordinated and look great together.

If she made this her signature color and wore it at least once a month, you’d never hear us complain about her neutral preferences again – she looks that good in it. We’re not the biggest fans of spaghetti straps or hem ruffles, but this looks fantastic on her. Again, she’s standing out in a way that doesn’t feel showy or disrespectful, but acknowledges that people are there to see her.

That’s an absolutely gorgeous skirt. The white oxford shirt may seem like a no-brainer, but it doesn’t look all that great because the waist hits so high and the shirt winds up looking sloppy and askew. She’d have been better off in a plain shell or even a t-shirt style.

We’re assuming she knew ahead of time that the Governor’s wife would be presenting her with that shawl, because it coordinates beautifully with the dress, which she’s worn several times before.

Personally, we find the color too bland for pictures and the print a little bedsheety. We’re not in love with the gather at the waist or the scarf, either. But the jewelry and shades are really well-chosen and when she’s working the whole look, it achieves a breezy daytime chic that straddles the line between royal and Montecito.
