In Defense of Rachel Zegler and Jamie Lloyd’s Controversial ‘Evita’ Balcony Scene: It Gets to the Heart of What the Musical Is Really About
Rachel Zegler is perched on a balcony, looking down graciously at a crowd of her adoring supporters. No, this isn’t a meet-and-greet for the “Snow White” and “West Side Story” star – she’s belting “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” the soulful climax of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s classic musical “Evita,” embodying the glamorous First Lady of Argentina the show is based on in a sparkling gown and platinum blonde wig.
But the people Zegler is serenading aren’t those inside the London Palladium who have paid top-dollar to see her in avant-garde director Jamie Lloyd‘s latest endeavor. They are her fans, bystanders and anyone who happens to walk down Soho’s Argyll Street at 9 p.m., getting a free front-row seat (or shall I say, stand) to one of the must buzzed about performances of the year. As for the actual audience? They’re watching Zegler’s performance via video stream, projected onto the stage.
Brad Pitt Says Young Actors ‘Get Caught Up’ in the Pressure to ‘Have a Superhero’ or ‘Have a Franchise’ and Tells Them: ‘Don’t! Don’t! They’ll Die’
Brad Pitt joined Travis and Jason Kelce on the “New Heights” podcast during his “F1” promotional tour and spoke about his affection and worry for the next generation of young actors. The Oscar winner said he enjoys watching new talent rise the ranks in Hollywood, although he did not name any young stars in particular. However, he encourages them not to succumb to industry pressures that did not exist when Pitt became a star — namely, the need to join a franchise or make a superhero movie.
Rachel Zegler Reveals All On That ‘Overwhelming But Moving’ Balcony Moment – And Evita‘s Star-Studded Opening
The actor opens up about her opening night look and performing to a crowd featuring Pedro Pascal.
It’s rare for a West End theatre production to garner so much attention and excitement before opening night, yet that is exactly what Rachel Zegler has managed to do as she steps into the shoes of Eva Perón in director Jamie Lloyd’s daring take on the beloved musical, Evita.
Over the last two weeks of preview shows, Zegler has stepped out on to the balcony of The London Palladium, the musical’s new home, mid-performance to perform a powerful rendition of ‘Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina’. ‘I don’t think any of us expected it to garner as much attention as it did,’ the 24-year-old actor reflects to ELLE UK, the morning after Evita’s opening night.
‘People have been camping out for hours before I go on and it’s humbling, beautiful and fits in the story very well.’ Starring as Perón, Zegler has received rave reviews for her passionate, high-voltage performance which follows the life of the Argentine political leader Juan Perón, and his second wife.
Lena Dunham’s Good Sex with Natalie Portman is filming in New York — and it already looks so iconic
It depicts a 40-year-old woman’s steamy fling with a young hipster.
Girls creator Lena Dunham’s Netflix movie Good Sex has officially started filming in New York City — and it looks like all of our rom-com prayers have been answered. The film stars Natalie Portman as a 40-year-old couples therapist navigating the New York dating scene, only to findi herself in a sexy tryst with a young Brookyn hipster, as well as a more conventionally-minded man from Manhattan. We love a love triangle.
And the first look pictures from set are already reminding us of the very best romantic comedies have to offer. NYC brownstones! Pitch-perfect springtime outfits! It’s giving Nora Ephron. It’s giving Sex and the City. It’s giving Materialists.

Love — it’s something almost all of us want, right? But what kind of love do you dream of? Is it a quick, fiery, passionate love to see you through the summer? Or is it a slow burn — a lasting connection that will last for years to come.

Some fans have called for him to be replaced, and on July 2, Reality Steve reported that ABC was in the process of replacing him. However, Glamour understands that’s not the case.

9 Outstanding Breakfast Sandwiches Across America
Chefs share the two ingredients for a perfect breakfast sandwich and a dozen standout versions to order from coast to coast.
A breakfast sandwich is often a thing of convenience — maybe it’s directly in the path of your morning commute, the first thing you eat before you’re ready to cook for yourself. And while a good breakfast sandwich helps you wake up in the morning, a great one will keep you up at night.
“A great breakfast sandwich should be comforting yet bold — it needs balance, contrast, and personality,” says chef and author Mawa McQueen, who founded Mawa’s Kitchen and Crêpe Therapy Café in Aspen, Colorado. In her experience, “What separates the best from the rest is attention to detail: the layering, the temperature, the seasoning. It should feel like it was built with care, not slapped together in a rush.”
The 10 Paris Restaurants You Need to Visit Right Now
There’s never been a better time to eat in the French capital. From a new Chinese bistro to a top-notch vegetarian restaurant, here’s where to book.
You could eat out every day in Paris and still only scratch the surface of its richly layered food scene. One of the top international cities for food and drink in the 2025 Global Tastemakers awards, marinated in rich gourmet traditions, Paris lures legions of international chefs to train in its kitchens. This talent is one of the key ingredients to the multicultural magic of today, where hot new openings vie for your attention alongside established restaurants that are places of pilgrimage. Even neighborhood bistros set the gustatory bar high, via careful ingredient sourcing and attention to technique. After all, Paris was the birthplace of the restaurant — a concept that has evolved over time and is now hitting a new crescendo. Here are some of the standouts I’ve recently tried in diverse districts across town — some tastebud-tickling, some epiphany-inducing, and all guaranteed to serve un bon plat.
Chicago’s Best Italian Beef Sandwiches to Pair With Season 4 of ‘The Bear’
Visit the restaurant that inspired ‘The Bear’ in real life, plus four other local favorites.
For years, Chicago’s iconic food scene was known for two main attractions: deep-dish pizza and hot dogs. Italian beef sandwiches have long been among the city’s iconic specialties, and the massive success of FX’s “The Bear” has exposed the local favorite to visitors. But who serves the best in town is a long contested topic.
Italian beef sandwiches are traced back to the early 1930s when Italian immigrants used less expensive cuts of meat to create affordable and filling meals. To flavor the beef, Italian Americans seasoned and slow-roasted the tougher cuts in broth, softening the texture. Different from the French Dip, Italian Beefs are served with a mix of hot and sweet peppers, and giardiniera, another Chicago staple.
All About Natalie Portman’s Two Kids, Aleph and Amalia, Who She’s Raising in Paris
The Star Wars actress doesn’t stress about being ‘a perfect mom.’
Natalie Portman has brought an impressive range of characters to life, but none of her roles come before that of being a mom. The Oscar-winner shares two children, son Aleph and daughter Amalia, with ex-husband Benjamin Millepied. She met Millepied on the set of 2009’s Black Swan, marrying him in August 2012. The couple finalized their divorce in February 2024, per People.
“Her biggest priority has been ensuring a smooth transition for her children,” an insider source told the outlet at the time. “She and Ben really love their kids and are equally focused on being the best co-parents they can be. Nothing is more important.”
32 Nail Colors That Are Stunning on Dark Skin, from Poppy Orange to Denim Blue
While the best nail color will differ according to the season, your outfit, and your mood, there are some colors that look especially stunning on deeper complexions. “Dark skin possesses a beautiful depth and richness that enhances the appearance of all nail polish shades,” says Rachel James, founder of polish brand Pear Nova.
“Bold and vibrant colors tend to pop and create a beautiful contrast and add a touch of drama,” shares James. But if you prefer neutrals, crisp whites and rich browns are equally as fabulous. According to celebrity manicurist Gina Edwards, the only shades you may want to steer clear of are those that look ashy. “Some shades can read gray and don’t complement the skin tone,” says Edwards. If you’re in the market for colors that will pop against your melanin, you’re in the right place.
An Insider’s Guide to Philadelphia: Where to Stay, Eat, and Shop
While we Philadelphians might be known for our aggressive sports fandom and proclivity toward a steak “whiz wit” on a fresh Amoroso roll, the City of Brotherly Love offers so much more. With the largest collection of Rodin sculptures outside of Paris, and one of the most lauded orchestras in the country—not to mention a strong community of chefs with roots around the world—Philadelphia is an underappreciated cultural hot spot. From gorgeously curated specialty shops and an electric food scene to an impressive public collection of Picassos and a vast library of American history, there are many reasons that make it a city worth visiting.
A Short Cultural History of the Tan Line
The tan line is back. And this time it isn’t the aftermath of a too-long afternoon nap: It’s intentional. Once dismissed, then desired, later condemned, now in demand, the visible contrast in skin tone caused by sun exposure has come full circle, tantalizing across TikTok’s For You Page, Instagram dumps, beauty campaigns, and more.
Starting with Coco Chanel on the Riviera to Gen Z’s fascination with tattoo methods, tan lines have a rich cultural history shaped by class dynamics and evolving beauty standards throughout time. But before we talk about 2025, where did the trend begin?

Who was the Countess of Rosse, Princess Margaret’s glamorous mother-in-law?
Anne Parsons, Countess of Rosse, who died 33 years ago this week, was mother to photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones, who wooed Princess Margaret
Princess Margaret was known as a great beauty of her age – a captivating figure celebrated for her poise, exquisite taste and sense of style. But many of the same qualities were also possessed by her mother-in-law, Anne Parsons, Countess of Rosse, who died 33 years ago this week.
Born in London in 1902, Anne Messel was the only daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Leonard Messel and his wife, Maud, the daughter of the celebrated Punch draughtsman, Edward Linley Sambourne. The family’s artistic streak was inherited by Anne’s brother, the leading stage designer Oliver Messel, and her son, the society photographer and filmmaker Antony Armstrong-Jones, later the 1st Earl of Snowdon, who was married to Princess Margaret from 1960-1978. (Indeed, it was Tatler that launched the young Armstrong-Jones on his path to stardom). Anne’s great-granddaughter Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones graced the cover of the May 2023 issue of Tatler.
The Best Movies of the 21st Century: Readers Choose Their Top Movies
The people have spoken. Here are the movies they voted for.
When we talk about the movies we love, every voice deserves a spotlight. So after publishing our official list of the best movies of the 21st century, compiled from the votes of 500-plus filmmakers, actors and other movie-industry professionals, we turned to New York Times readers, who cast more than 200,000 ballots of their own.
Here, you’ll find several blockbusters that fell short of the original 100 — “Sinners,” “Barbie,” not one but two “Dune” movies — and small international gems like “Drive My Car” and “The Handmaiden,” too. “Midsommar” and “Mean Girls” entered the chat, while a surprising number of rankings (“Mulholland Drive,” “The Social Network”) stood firm.
Maybe you’ve already seen them all. If not, you can click through and save the movies you want to watch as you go — they’ll be easily accessible on your watch list. You can also still create a ballot here to share with friends; it won’t count toward the final tally, but there’s no expiration date on a good debate.
Skimpy Men’s Swimsuits Are Making a Splash
Swim briefs are being embraced by trendy brands, publications and celebrities. Will they show up at a beach near you?
This season, after years of fielding requests for a particular swimsuit online and at his retail stores, the men’s wear designer Todd Snyder gave those who had been asking what they wanted: a swim brief.
Mr. Snyder, who is known for making modern versions of classic items in the American man’s wardrobe, said that even though he had a sense of customers’ appetite for swim briefs, he was surprised by his version’s reception. “It’s been doing killer,” he said of the brief, a new addition to his namesake brand’s swimwear offerings — competing “neck and neck” with the trunks his brand sells.
The Todd Snyder Mykonos brief, which is sold in three solid colors and has an inside pocket for small items like keys, is among the latest iterations of a swimsuit being revisited by some luxury brands (most are European) and by men bold enough to wear it. They do not include Mr. Snyder. “I think I’m past that,” the 57-year-old designer said, laughing. “Those days are gone.”
Why You Should Never (Ever) Throw an Apple Core Out the Car Window
It may seem harmless, but roadside food waste creates dangerous situations.
Spending months of the year in national parks, Kevin Jackson, founder and lead guide for EXP Journeys, has seen firsthand how even small actions—such as tossing an apple core out of a car window—can have unintended and negative consequences for wildlife and their fragile ecosystems.
“The bottom line is, even with good intentions, tossing an apple core out the window can contribute to wildlife roadside fatalities, human-wildlife conflicts and ecological disruption,” he says.
Jackson and other experts detail why apple cores and other food waste are harmful, and why the best way to protect our natural habitats is not to throw anything out, even the seemingly harmless bits.
How to Help Your Dog Cope With Fireworks, According to Experts
Keep furry family members safe and calm with these tips.
While Fourth of July celebrations are typically filled with cold drinks, good food, and spectacular displays of fireworks, not everyone may be having fun—in particular any canine guests. Fireworks can be troubling for dogs, especially if they’re already anxiety-prone, explains Alexandra Bassett, lead dog trainer and behavior consultant at Dog Savvy.
According to Bassett, there’s a significant surge in missing pets after the Fourth of July, primarily due to them being spooked by the festivities, so learning how to calm a dog during fireworks is often crucial. “There’s no way to provide a dog with a warning about what’s about to happen, so the loud light show that ‘suddenly appears out of nowhere’ can spook a dog and cause them to try to escape the area,” Bassett explains.
Don’t stress, though—we have you (and your pup) covered. In preparation for the festivities, we consulted with dog trainers and behaviorists to help you set your pet up for success safely.
9 Easy Ways to Reduce Your Plastic Use, According to a Sustainability Expert
Cutting down on plastic doesn’t mean a complete lifestyle overhaul.
As a species, our plastic consumption is pretty abysmal. We’ve reached record highs of plastic pollution, according to the EPA, contributing to landfills and waterways waste that will take hundreds of years (or longer) to decompose. Recent studies have also demonstrated that microplastics pose a significant health risk. The stats can be scary, but you do have some control over how much plastic is in your life and used in your home.
With a society so based in plastic, it may feel daunting (or impossible) to completely cut the substance from your daily life. But a few easy steps can help drastically reduce plastics in your typical day-to-day. Here’s how to reduce plastic use with ease.
The Retro Dessert Your Grandma Loved Is Summer’s Coolest Comeback
Easy, nostalgic, and no oven required, icebox cakes are perfect for warm-weather entertaining.
When the temperatures climb and your oven starts collecting dust, it’s time to turn to one of summer’s most satisfying sweets: the icebox cake. This retro, no-bake dessert is having a moment—not just because it spares you the sweat of baking, but because it’s endlessly customizable, make-ahead friendly, and rich in both flavor and nostalgia.
We spoke to Bobbie Lloyd, baker, CEO of Magnolia Bakery, and author of The Magnolia Bakery Handbook of Icebox Desserts, a new cookbook devoted to chilled treats, to get the low-down on these old-fashioned treats. “As the weather heats up, icebox desserts are a great sweets option because, for the most part, you don’t need to turn on your oven to make something delicious,” she says. “Plus, they’re great make-ahead options, so they’re perfect for summer BBQs and picnics.”
The Most Scenic Way to Explore This Remote Midwestern National Park Is by Boat—and It Has Mirror-like Lakes and 500 Islands
You can even stay in a houseboat in Minnesota’s Voyageurs National Park.
Located in northern Minnesota, just south of the Canadian border, the 218,000-acre park is made up of 30 lakes and 500 islands, and it’s best explored by boat. According to BoatMart, “Boaters can explore the seemingly endless waterways, set up camp at remote sites accessible only by boat, enjoy canoeing, or try their hand at kayaking in the breathtaking arboreal beauty of Northern Minnesota.”
This Scenic Train Has Dramatic River Canyon Sights—and an Open-air Car for Cinematic Views
West Virginia’s Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad cuts through the “Trough,” a hard-to-access canyon known for its bald eagles.
For more than three decades, the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad has operated as a piece of living history, preserving railway scenes of the past and offering passengers the chance to step back in time—trading interstates and inboxes for the unhurried rhythm of steel wheels on track.
The train departs from the town of Romney, West Virginia, population just over 1,800, and rolls into what locals call the “Trough,” a remote, roadless stretch of river canyon best accessed by rail. From the open-air car of the train, the view is cinematic: the Potomac River moves slow and constant while a steady scroll of century-old farms and rusting barns come in and out of view. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a bald eagle tracing lazy circles above the water.
