Somehow, the production on this one flew completely under our radar, but HBO released their trailer for their upcoming Dune prequel series Dune: Prophecy and we admit to being both pleasantly surprised enough to be intrigued but also struggling to shake the impression that it’s all a little cookie-cutter.
It’s a pretty impressive cast, it’s adapted directly from source material (instead of being some sort of grandfathered-in retcon a la The Rings of Power), and the production design looks impressive. The Bene Gesserit are an element of the Dune universe that practically begs for more adaptations. All of it sounds good on paper, but it’s really hard to shake the idea that it’s giving Game of Dunes. We loved both of Villeneuve’s Dune movies, so we’ll see if this measures up to them. We’ll be tentatively seated.
