Long before Elliott affirmed his truth to the world, we complained that his completely understandable preference for menswear had left him with the idea that it needed to be plain and uniform-like. He was in an epic style rut that lasted years, which is, again, completely understandable as he worked on himself. But we got the impression he’d fallen into the trap so many men do when it comes to fashion: that caring about it too much was the purview of women alone. We’re thrilled to see that the turn in recent years toward more stylish menswear options on the red carpet has reached him. This is easily the best outfit we’ve ever seen him wear. It’s casual, but impeccable. More importantly, it’s perfectly suited to him. There’s no reason why men of smaller stature can’t wear conventional suiting, but we think it’s a good idea for them to explore shapes and styles that suit them specifically instead of trying to fit into a mold. That’s true for everyone, actually.
