Wake up, the kids made a new Frankenstein movie.

Lisa Frankenstein stars Cole Sprouse, Kathryn Newton and Liza Soberano, hit the LA premiere red carpet in looks that pretty much scream “LA premiere red carpet.” Not that that’s a bad thing, mind you. After all, half of good style is dressing for the venue.

At the risk of pissing off his fans, he cracks us up because, in interviews, he acts like he’s DiCaprio opening the latest Scorsese movie. A little bit of cockiness is to be expected in young male stars, but we tend to think you should embrace the silliness of the project you’re promoting. The film looks like stupid fun. None of this is terrible (the coat is gorgeous, in fact), but it does feel a bit self-serious for the moment.

Sexy goth sounds like the right way to go for your sexy teen Frankenstein movie. We wish we could say we like this design, but the mismatch between the weight of the bodice and the skirt just makes her look half-dressed. We realize that’s the point of it, just as we’re dead sure the demo for which this movie was made will love it.

Oddly enough, we really like this, even though it’s composed of elements (patchwork, lace) we tend to find mumsy. Maybe it’s the fit, maybe it’s the selection of textiles, maybe it’s the proportions of how everything was used, but this design looks great on her. A “more than the sum of its parts” dress in every sense.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
A coming of RAGE love story from acclaimed writer Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way.
Starring Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse, directed by Zelda Williams, and written by Diablo Cody.
