Style File: THE CROWN Star Elizabeth Debicki at the Critics’ Choice Awards and Emmys

We’re sorry to say it, but we have to count The Crown star Elizabeth Debicki as one of the most disappointing celebrities we’ve ever covered. For reasons far outside our control (so don’t get mad at us for saying it), she is operating at the lowest possible difficulty setting when it comes to high fashion choices because she looks exactly like a high-fashion model, which is who almost all high-fashion clothing is ultimately designed for. She could – and we would of course argue that she should – hit every red carpet serving the most Evangelista of Eleganzas, if you know what we mean. She could be giving us Vogue cover 1958 realness. She could give us Carmen or Dovima or Princess Grace if she wanted to. Based on her red carpet style, we can only assume she doesn’t want to. Having said that, each of her recent awards ceremony appearances showed some improvement.

Don’t get us wrong. We still hate this. The pants are almost offensively too long and the bodice (this is a jumpsuit) is a little ugly. But at least it’s not a minimalist sheath. We’d rather she try things with a little personality instead of always defaulting to the least interesting pieces.

Having said that, we pretty much loved this. The deep red color and the nearly imperceptible braided sash are what saved it. If only she’d sported the updo and maquillage this look begs for.
