Style File: Kerry Washington Makes the Rounds

Kerry Washington has been hitting the talk show circuit to promote her new memoir, Thicker Than Water, for which we, and the bookers at the talk shows in question are very grateful. We think one lesson the stars are going to take from this protracted strike period is that those stars with side gigs like books or makeup lines or music projects will always have a way to promote themselves, no matter what else is going in the world. Anyway, we’re here to talk about the looks.

There are a lot of great pieces here, but we’re not convinced that nay of them should be worn at the same time. We’re not opposed to pattern mixing, but when you pair that bag with that skirt, you’re doing both of them a disservice. They’re each gorgeous and they shouldn’t have to fight for attention. We are also not big sticklers about pieces matching, but we’re have a hard time seeing how that top coordinates well with that skirt.

The bodice of this dress is way too fussy for our tastes, but through the power of styling, it can work. In other words, we love it with the classic moto.

Hunh. Well, at least they’re an unexpected choice. We think this probably goes without saying, but we’re referring to those boots. We don’t know if this is some sort of quirky thing on our parts or if it’s more of a universal taste, but we actually like brown and blue as a color combination, especially if the brown is rich and the blue is bright. Are we the weirdos here? To be clear, we don’t love the shape of the skirt and we think the bag is introducing more color to a look that already has enough going on.
