Following up on their successfully coordinated looks for the photo call, Special Ops: Lioness (which is a terrible title, by the way) stars Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldana continued to serve up complementary fashion at the London screening.
Unforch, we can’t quite call these efforts successful.
Nicole Kidman in Saint Laurent
Oof. She’s got such an interesting red carpet record when you think about it. She’s had countless moments serving breathtaking looks but then she’s also had a lot of outright face-plants. We like the rosette up at the neck, but that is honestly one of the worst cutouts we’ve seen in a long time. The shape and size of it is terribly unflattering. We also want to put it on the record that the trend for wrinkly sheer gloves isn’t going to age well and there will be a raft of “What were we thinking” pieces in ten years. She’s not having a great hair week and the makeup looks a little harsh. We love you Nic, but all of this is a no.
Zoe Saldana in Alexander McQueen
This is a pretty great look but an odd choice for mid July. Still, the issue here isn’t the seasonality of it, it’s the styling, which seems way too low key for it. McQueen tends to call for a commitment to the accompanying styling. The low-key jewelry, hair and makeup just aren’t doing it. The shoes are nice in a generic sort of way but we kinda think a pair of thigh-highs would’ve done a lot for this look.
