A whole bunch of power couples – more than we could fit in the thumbnail above – made some fairly head-turning statements on the Met Gala red carpet this year.
Anna Wintour (in Chanel) and Bill Nighy
We guess they’re official now? Apparently they’ve been a thing for a while. They seem like a pretty good match. Her coat is gorgeous. He is exceedingly appropriate. That’s all he needs to be for her.
Brittney Griner and Cherelle Griner in Calvin Klein
Not to be all sappy about it, but their happy faces are the very best thing they could’ve brought to the Met Gala. Brittney’s suit is pretty sweet and we love the tat-framing sheer shirt with it. Cherelle’s fit is flawless.
Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade in Prada
Now THAT is a power couple. Everything about these looks works as a statement about their partnership and the power they derive from it. They look amazing.
Hannah Bagshawe and Eddie Redmayne in Alexander McQueen
His suit is a nice McQueen take on a Lagerfeld aesthetic. We’re afraid we don’t much like her dress at all.
Yung Miami and P Diddy (in Act No 1)
We suppose we could quibble about the details here and there, but you cannot fault these two for failing to bring the drama to the Met Gala. If we’re being honest, we have to admit that like his look way more than hers, which feels a bit unresolved as a design as well as extremely difficult to wear.
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas in Valentino
They’re clamped so tightly to each other it’s difficult to get a handle on their outfits, but we’re pretty underwhelmed by what we can say. She’s okay enough (too many folks relying on gigantic coats to do all the work this year) but he really brings the level down.
Rita Ora and Taika Waititi in Prabal Gurung
Her gown is rather pretty and we like the conventional glam styling for her. The manicure is ridiculous. We wish we could buy what he’s selling here, but it looks to our eyes like a cheap version of what could have been a swanky look.
Suki Waterhouse (in Fendi) and Robert Pattinson (in Dior Homme)
LOVE his look, all the way down to his feet, which may be the best part of it. Her dress is uniquely pretty and suits her perfectly. We just wish there was a bit more of it.
Sabrina Dhowre Elba and Idris Elba in Gucci
That is the sharpest he has EVER looked. The beading on her skirt is stunning. They make a gorgeous pair.
