If you’ve read us for any length of time, you know we have a set of phrases that we tend to use to describe when a celebrity’s red carpet style rarely fails to miss the mark but doesn’t necessarily land on any best-dressed lists: no fuss, gets-the-job-done, profesh. Viola Davis lands squarely in this category, but lately, we think she’s managed a trick very few of these get-it-done, we-good-here types rarely do.
She manages to dazzle. We think she’s really found the style that works for her and she’s so well-suited to it that she tends to make it look easy. Of course hours of preparation and a considerable amount of fuss are required in order to turn it out at this level, but she doesn’t chase trends, knows exactly what works for her and what she’s willing to put up with, and seeks the exact amount of attention the venue requires of her every time. She looks great. We don’t love those kinds of twist-gathers when they’re situated right at the waist, but the color looks amazing, the fit is perfect and the styling is spectacular. Judith Leiber theme purses can be dicey, but this one is really cute.
