Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth hit the very stagey and gimmicky red oil-slicked carpet at the Sydney photo call for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

They did not coordinate their outfits ahead of time.

We always say that good style is about taking into account the time, place, and wearer, so we’ve done that. It’s a Mad Max movie. He’s an Aussie on his home soil. He’s surrounded by murder mimes and machinery in staging that is meant to look slick with motor oil. With all that taken into account… it’s still a shit suit. We are delighted by the popped collar, as if that one last-minute touch was going to pull this pile of laundry together. The grooming’s nice, which is why the rest of it looks like an affectation. We’re not mad at it, though. He’s making a pitch directly to a segment of the audience that doesn’t care at all about things like fashion. On the flipside:

Miss Anya is making her appeal directly to the fashion-watching crowd. Evidently, she’s in her brown era. It might be a coincidence that she wore two brown gowns in the same week, but we live in a time of extremely gimmicky red carpetry (as per the above pictures) and while we’re thrilled to see that she doesn’t appear to be launching a cosplay-based tour, we wouldn’t be surprised if she’s taking a cue from Margot Robbie and Zendaya and dressing in one color scheme for the promotional events. Then again, maybe she just really likes brown right now. At any rate, she looks pretty amazing. It’s got just the right balance of hardassery with fabulousness. She was right to keep the styling low key. She’d look pretty dumb sporting diamonds in this setting.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
-Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth star in Academy Award-winning mastermind George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” the much-anticipated return to the iconic dystopian world he created more than 30 years ago with the seminal “Mad Max” films. Miller now turns the page again with an all-new original, standalone action adventure that will reveal the origins of the powerhouse character from the multiple Oscar-winning global smash “Mad Max: Fury Road.” The new feature from Warner Bros. Pictures is produced by Miller and his longtime partner, Oscar-nominated producer Doug Mitchell (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Babe”), under their Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner.
– As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
– Taylor-Joy stars in the title role, and along with Hemsworth, the film also stars Tom Burke and Alyla Browne.
