You’ve gotta hand it to Lady Gaga. She’s been in the game long enough, and has marked enough career and creative milestones, that it’s become somewhat easy for her to turn on the classic glamour when she needs to. In fact, she’s become adept enough at a sort of fashion based code-switching between pop star and serious Hollywood player that she can now combine both sides of her persona in a way that feels effortless. Granted, she had a lot of help from Versace with this one.
It’s beautiful, elegant, sexy, and in possession of a dark edge that fits her persona beautifully. We’re not a hundred percent on the way the skirt marries to the bodice, but that’s the most chic use of sheer and visible boning we’ve seen in a while. The jewelry is perfectly chosen and we like that she went rocker chick-hard on the makeup. She stripped all of this off, makeup included, to perform “Hold My Hand,” her nominated song from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack, and we found it ridiculously pretentious of her to do so. Ah, well. It was ever Gaga.
