The stylish and gorgeous cast of Daisy Jones & the Six put on their best rock god drag and joined their collaborators on the red carpet for the series premiere. Having screened most of it by now, we think it’s safe to say we will have more to say on this one when it drops. Suffice it to say, you will almost certainly find the songs stuck in your head for weeks and you will almost certainly see at least one outfit that will make you sigh and wonder if you can pull it off. And speaking of pulling off outfits, let’s assess.
Camila Morrone in Valentino
This feels like we’re at the 1978 Grammys, which couldn’t be more on point without looking like she’s wearing a costume. Our only quibble is that it could have used some more eye-catching jewelry.
Josh Whitehouse in Wales Bonner
Well, it’s definitely a choice – or a series of them. We’ll give it that. It’s got that rock star feel, although the jacket is riding up too much and we don’t love the plain black boots with those white pants.
Marcus Mumford
His grooming is great and we love the little touches of jewelry he’s sporting. We don’t mind the relaxed casualness of the look, but this honestly feels like something Kathy Bates would wear.
Maren Morris
Having just covered her for the Grammys, she appears to be on an awkward proportions/bad neckline roll.
Nabiyah Be in PatBo
Oh, honey. While we get that this is a moment to really grab the spotlight, this dress shot past “memorable” and hit “tacky” at 200 miles an hour.
Reese Witherspoon in Schiaparelli
Madam Producer, keeping things low-key and profesh.
Riley Keough in Schiaparelli Couture
We’re not crazy about the proportions on the top, but this is really strong and declarative. She’s not trying to look like her character or even to evoke anything that could read as rock star, which is especially notable considering her own family. Instead, she’s going for a prestige actress look. This feels like a statement. Love the earrings. It can’t be easy promoting your big project right after your mother’s death.
Sam Claflin
We’ve said this before just recently, but we were shocked at how different he looked in this series compared to how he looks most of the time on the red carpet. This look is okay, but he’s got to be one of the prime examples of a celebrity guy who really doesn’t know how to maximize what he’s got through grooming and style choices. None of this is wrong so much as it’s not doing anything for him.
Sebastian Chacon in Sanchez-Kane
This is honestly kind of tragic. There isn’t one aspect of this look – from the jewelry to the nails to the boots to the outfit itself – that doesn’t look like someone trying way too hard to not be conventional. We can accept all of the styling choices, but that suit is a horror show of design and fit.
Suki Waterhouse in Stéphane Rolland Couture
She really got her Stevie Nicks on, which is ironic, because she pretty much plays the Christine McVie character. Still, she’s incredibly well suited to this style and we think this is easily the most fabulous sheer gown we’ve seen in months. The hair is perfect. We might not love that clutch but it’s definitely on point.
Timothy Olyphant
It’s boring, but he’s hot, so it all works out.
