We love a good fashion swerve and Poker Face star Natasha Lyonne served up a great one at the Golden Globes. No one saw this one coming:

It’s so weirdly eye-catching. She’s always done great with a disco-fabulous retro style, but it turns out she can also work these sorts of severe high-fashion looks. The hair is genuinely odd, but the longer we look at it, the more we appreciate it for its oddness. The dress itself is fairly basic in design, with the twin bonuses of accentuated shoulders and built-in gloves. On a lesser wearer, or on someone who doesn’t understand accessorizing (which amounts to the same thing), this might have come off generic and forgettable, but the odd hair, the heavy-as-hell jewelry, and those big-ass boots do a lot to take the look somewhere interesting and unforgettable. The Golden Globes is perhaps the most conventional of the awards shows in terms of the style on display, so it’s nice to see someone try to push the envelope a little. No one looked quite like her that night. That’s the whole point.
