We have much in the way of gownery and extravagance to show you today, but we felt like we needed to pay a small bit of attention to a look that sort of quietly captivated us. We just kept coming back to these pictures of Where the Crawdads Sing star Daisy Edgar-Jones at the British Independent Film Awards without really thinking about why until it hit us: this suit is kind of fantastic.
Shoutout to all the fans of The Vampire’s Wife who said we were nothing but a couple of haters who need to keep its name our of our mouths. It shouldn’t be a surprise that two queens who tended to dislike the brand’s twee prairie dresses would turn around and embrace this look, since it’s about as far away from the prairie as you can get. This has way more Mick Jagger to it than Laura Ingalls and that suits us – and Miss Daisy Edgar-Jones – just fine. Sure, maybe the hem could be raised on those pants just a wee bit, but the tailoring is perfect and the crystals on black velvet look both romantic and a little hard-edged. It’s low key, but really great.
