UNITY! BLESSED, ENFORCED, RIGID FAMILY UNITY! The Waleses brought the whole royal fam out for Princess Catherine’s “Together at Christmas” carol service at Westminster Abbey on the same day that the second half of Harry & Meghan dropped on Netflix. We will have things to say about the latter topic in today’s podcast (so hold your thoughts on that for a bit), so let’s focus on the royal coat porn.

Cathy’s coat is gorgeous. We tend to find the family matching she insists on to be a little too precious for the real world, but they’re a brand as much as they’re a family so it always made a certain amount of sense (even if no one else in the family ever did things that way). To be fair, knowing she would be the next inheritor of the famed Princess of Wales title probably explains a good deal of how and why Kate operates. Her whole public life has been something of a corrective to the messy Diana and Charles years. She was never going to follow the script that her mother-in-law did, knowing how things played out for her in the end. This sort of rigid family conformity works, even if it feels a little unnecessarily restrictive to us. As expected, everyone is wearing lovely outerwear. Camilla’s white coat stands out well and Beatrice’s plaid is really striking. Eugenie’s looks like a blanket, though.
