When you are the woman married to the man who married the world’s most glamorous social justice attorney, and it’s a big night for him as he’s being honored for some stuff other than being married to you, then you pick out two dresses for the occasion; one for the dinner and one for the main event. We don’t make the rules. Amal Clooney does.
A perfect dress for tucking into a big dinner. It’s a fine design, even if we’ve seen dozens of subtle variations on it over the years. We have no quibbles except that the fit up top seems a little dicey and we wouldn’t have rec’d doing the matchy shoes with it.
This is a great, relatively simple dress. Given her occasional bouts of exuberance on the red carpet, we’re impressed by how much she toned down her efforts tonight. She ditched the huge feather coat from the runway version (see below), but we suspect she’d have loved to have worn it. Instead, she’s doing the supportive wife fashion; i.e., she looks fantastic, but she’s not outshining the man of the hour.
