A little puzzler to keep you busy while we work on recaps of The Crown for tomorrow: Is it possible that Janelle Monae and Thom Browne took things a little too far this time? We realize that counts as blasphemy around these parts, and we do think it should be noted that the CFDA Awards practically beg for attention-seeking fashion, but we don’t know, you guys…
We feel like this time, they might have taken the whimsy just a few degrees higher than they should have. Or maybe it’s not the whimsy so much as the main garment itself, which is big and shapeless and doesn’t seem to have a lot to offer other than its bigness and shapelessness. We admit we rolled our eyes at the bootie design, but maybe we’re just cranky. Love the hair. Kinda done with the doggie bags. Overall, it just feels like a whole lot of look without enough of a payoff for all the effort, if that makes any sense. In simpler terms, we think she may be due for a style refresh, because it just feels like this is played out. Are we wrong here? We’re asking.
