Billie Eilish walked the sustainable fashion walk at the Environmental Media Association Awards Gala, opting to show up in a custom Gucci ensemble she wore to the 2020 Billboard Music Awards.
It’s funny. We feel largely the same about it as we did the first time she wore it, except we’re not quite so vehement in our feelings about it. The style is fine. It’s what she prefers and we support any young woman in pop music taking a stance on how she’s willing to present herself. We remain impressed that she can get major design houses to bend to her will and make things for her that they’d never send down a runway with their label on it. Anyway, our single objection is this: the textile is mumsy and old-fashioned. If the style were groundbreaking or the material used in some highly original way, we might like it more, but this is an oversized pantsuit/pajamas, which only contributes to the sad geriatric feel of it. Ironically, we think it looked better with the original bucket hat and face mask.
