Stranger Things star – and Kate Bush’s favorite person this year – Sadie Sink kind of had the equivalent of her deb coming out this week. There’s always a certain notability when a young star is making her first big step up in her career, especially if she takes the opportunity to modify her image as she does so. Navigating the Venice Film Festival in the wake of critical acclaim and tremendous buzz surrounding her new film The Whale with Brendan Fraser, she served up a series of high-fashion looks that announced her arrival as an ingenue on the prestige cinema scene clearly and loudly.
OUT AND ABOUT IN GUCCI
All three of these looks are really stylish, but also youthful, with a sense of lightness about them. While there might be more practical outfits to wear for a boat trip, this is just about perfect for a “disembarking at Venice” photo opportunity. LOVE those platforms. Putting the sunglasses on top of her head for pictures is a star move.
AT THE WHALE PHOTO CALL IN ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
We’re almost with her on this one. It’s got that hard/soft thing that embodies some of the best from the House of McQueen, but the side cutouts come pretty close to ruining the design for us. Love the boots paired with it, though.
AT THE WHALE PREMIERE IN ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
We may not love cutouts, but she is clearly in love with this dress and that does a lot to sell it. We’ve said this about her before, but she’s got potential to be a real star player on the red carpet scene in the Anya Taylor-Joy mode because she really knows how to work a wall of cameras. She’s got a model’s ease with being photographed, which is not something every movie or television star has, not even some of the most legendarily beautiful (See: every entry for “Pfeiffer, Michelle”). Anyway, cutouts aside, this has a bit of a mermaid vibe to it, which couldn’t suit her better. Love the skirt, not in love with the bodice at all.
