The cast of Amsterdam agreed on the group text that they’d all treat the Amsterdam London premiere red carpet as a formal affair. Evidently.
We have to say, as much as we love a coordinated group in a picture-taking situation, we wouldn’t normally be all that thrilled about an all-black red carpet appearance. It tends to get a little dull and repetitive. But there’s more to love than complain about with this group, especially when they’re photographed as a group. Do we expect them all to pull out instruments and launch into a four-part harmony? Maybe a little.
Rami Malek in Prada
No notes. Perfection Love love love. The pea coat keeps him from looking like a priest and the gorgeous boots and watch provide just the touch of glamour and interest the look needs. He’s really well-suited to all-black looks.
Andrea Riseborough in Prada
This is a fairly conventional gown compared to her usual preferences. The things about her is that she can make something conventional come off a little weirder just by wearing it. We would normally think a gown like this begs for a pendant or an up do, but the stark styling makes for a particularly dramatic look.
Margot Robbie in Celine
We kinda love this for her. Admittedly, we don’t love a lot of cutouts and we tend to think a skirt with a high center slit comes off both tacky and slightly impractical. But there’s a groovy ’70s witch vibe that suits her really well. It feels a little refreshing after the beach wedding and Diana Spencer cosplay looks of earlier this week.
Christian Bale and Sibi Blažić
He almost never poses alone on a red carpet. We suspect he finds it excruciating, which is why he’s always got his wife by his side when he’s not posing with co-stars. Her dress is simple but looks great on her and the touches of red work well with it. It’s the kind of look that’s perfect for a red carpet plus-one; photogenic, flattering, low-key stylish but not focus-pulling. The problem is that practically any halfway decent look is going to pull focus from his. It’s okay, but the style is dull, the shoes are a mess, and the grooming could use some work.
