Tom Sturridge in Saint Laurent at THE SANDMAN World Premiere

Posted on August 04, 2022

Your pouty little Goth (adjacent) Prince is here.

On the one hand, this couldn’t be more on point for the event. On the other hand, you might have heard us rail against the idea of actors showing up for premieres lightly cosplaying as their characters. We’re a little torn, because despite the ensemble being just a little too on-the-nose for our preferences, it really does suit him amazingly well. Besides, while Morpheus may be known for having a somewhat fluid sense of style, we can’t actually picture him wearing a velvet Saint Laurent suit. He may be a moody skinny boy with epic fits, but the King of Dreams is no label queen. Anyway, it’s not really the suit that makes the look. It’s that ruffled collar, which looks fantastic on him. A shame the suit sleeves are just a skosh too short. The worn-looking boots are a massive letdown.

We’ll be running down all of the stylish looks at the Sandman premiere, but be warned, you are going to be slammed with Sandman content from us over the next three days. We’ll be dropping the first of our episodic recaps starting tomorrow morning and we hope to have them all wrapped up by the end of the weekend, plus we’ll be recording a primer on the Sandman universe for our podcast tomorrow, with Tom offering the “I’ve read the entire series every year for the last 25 years” perspective and Lorenzo giving the “I have no idea who these characters are” newbie perspective. Brace yourselves! Also, while we’re embargoed from saying anything about the series until tomorrow, we might actually slip up while reviewing the red carpet looks from the premiere and dash off little tidbits like “Tom Sturridge gets Dream’s prissy officiousness and tortured empathy exactly right but we wish they’d made him paler.” Whoops!
