The stars of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power came out for the premiere of the most expensive television show in history. Overall, we’d say this cast has done a better job of stepping up to the style plate than their distant cousins in Westeros, but we still found a few things to bitch about.
Benjamin Walker in Dior Homme
Oh, look. An Amazon executive stopped by. It’s kind of insane to us that this guy just exited his thirties like two months ago. It’s not that he can’t look his age or younger if he wanted to, but this sort of father-of-the-bride fashion doesn’t help. Having said that, it’s a nice suit.
Charles Edwards
Look, if you’re all gonna show up in blue suits and white dress shirts, we’ll just end this post right now.
Charlie Vickers
Hmph. We’ll accept it because of the rings, the one accessory everyone here should be sporting, many times over.
Cynthia Addai-Robinson in Maison Rabih Kayrouz
See? Rings! It’s not hard. The gown is giving Galadriel, by way of ’90s Calvin Klein.
Cynthia Erivo in Rick Owens
Cynthia stopped by to show her support (and also to show everyone how it’s done). While we can’t claim to love the giant pearl bag, we do love the colors and dramatic sweep of this ensemble. This is her version of minimalism and it looks great.
Ema Horvath in Monique Lhuillier
Another pseudo-Galadriel gown. It’s pretty, but we’d have liked it more in a richer color.
Ismael Cruz Córdova
RINGS. Also, a pretty great suit. Love the sort of ascot-dickie thing. Ascot Dickie would be a great name for a drag king.
Leon Wadham in Fendi
We suspect this might be slightly more interesting in person. In pictures, it just looks wet.
Markella Kavenagh in Vintage Vivienne Westwood
This is a whole lot, but they put twigs in this girl’s hair and slapped hobbit feet on her. If she wants to dress up as Victorian Streetwalker Barbie, we say go for it.
Maxim Baldry in Paul Smith
Meh. We’re so over these giant ’90s NBA suits.
Megan Richards in Biyan
Love the shoes. We just can’t get behind what looks like yellow velvet on a red carpet in August.
Morfydd Clark in Christian Siriano
It’s kind of funny that Galadriel herself opted to go in a very un-Galadriel direction when some of her co-stars did the opposite. This is pretty.
Nazanin Boniadi in Balmain
And this is hot. It’s got a real fantasy vibe to it, although it looks more like a Westeros ensemble than a Middle Earth one.
Robert Aramayo
We don’t understand why anyone would wear a coat and turtleneck in August, but he does look pretty great, we have to admit.
Sara Zwangobani
Cute. Like if Galadriel wore cocktail dresses.
Sophia Nomvete in The Row
RINGS. Dwarven princesses never leave Khazad-dûm without them. Or so we’re told. This take on minimalism really works for her, but we think the styling is what does the trick. Her hair looks great.
Tyroe Muhafidin in Firme
We’d be a lot bitchier about this look if he was older. Still, we appreciate the unusual choices, even if we don’t think they work particularly well for him.
