New queer goth deity just dropped.
It’s giving Death Metal Christmas Tree and we don’t have a problem with any of that. This is, of course, intensely fabulous and it made us smile, but we’re afraid we’re going to have to court controversy again. We can’t help it, darlings. We can only be the opinionated bitches God intended us to be and while we adore Lil Nas X for being a hot Black gay nerd and provacateur, we admit to being a weensy bit disappointed that he’d show up at the VMAs in someone else’s castoffs. Worse: they’re someone else’s castoffs from last year. Horrors! The legendary Iman wore a nearly identical Harris Reed ensemble to the 2021 Met Gala and while we appreciate this black version a bit more than hers, the fact remains that Lil Nas X is wearing someone else’s look. It’s not the end of the world, obviously, but we admit to being a bit surprised that he’d go for such a thing, given how original an artist (not to mention how envelope-pushing a fashionisto) he is. It’s a gorgeous look, but it has the one quality a Lil Nas X red carpet look shouldn’t have: we’ve seen it already.
