Legends supporting legends. We truly do love to see it.
Love to see Liza still working those Elsa Peretti bone cuffs. Given her long friendship with the jewelry designer (who died last year), we think it’s safe to say these are not borrowed pieces. Gaga looked fantastic in her shimmery tux jumpsuit; a great way to interpret the form to be stagewear appropriate. Loved the hair and the jewelry.
Say what you will about Gaga (we certainly have), but there’s no denying her deep and genuine respect for elderly entertainers. The way she whispered “I got you” to Liza when it seemed like she was getting overwhelmed was a lovely grace note for a tense and occasionally ugly night.
There was a lot of chatter about whether bringing the Cabaret legend out on stage was unseemly, given her condition and sense of confusion, but we think a lot of that just reveals how uncomfortable people are around the elderly or infirm. We’re not in any position to advocate for Liza or to know anything about the details of her health, but we don’t think there’s any reason to believe she isn’t able to make her own decisions. For all we know, this might be the last public appearance she makes. Let the legend have her Oscar moment, we say. People can shift in their seats for a second or two. Besides, Liza at 25 was just as fluttery onstage.
