We’ve talked a bit recently how Ariana DeBose has been toning down some of her more exuberant style tendencies in a possible response to being on the awards track for her role in West Side Story. But there’s a benefit to being a star riding Oscar buzz that sort of plays against the notion that one should dress a little more seriously while in contention: first dibs on the latest Couture collections. How does one say “Yes, I am a Serious Actress who will do the Academy proud” when you get to wear a Valentino piece still warm from the model who walked it on the runway? If you’re Ariana DeBose and you just got announced as one of the five nominees for the EE Rising Star Award ahead of the 2022 EE British Academy Film Awards, you give in to your impulses.
This is absolutely charming on her. We have to be nitpicky and say that we’re not sure the shoes were the best choice. On the other hand, we like that she kept her styling fairly clean and low-key, letting the couture speak for itself.
