We’ve covered a million or so of these celebrity walks to the talk show studio door and we feel safe in saying that roughly 95% of them consist of sheepish mid-dash waves with possibly one awkward get-this-over-with pose. Then there’s Lady Gaga, whose feet haven’t hit a sidewalk in the last decade without her turning it into an impromptu runway. Rarely do you see a star serving face this hard walking in and walking out of a talk show appearance.

What’s of interest regarding her House of Gucci promo tour style is how she’s trying to thread a needle between her pop star and movie star personae, not leaning too hard on either one. When she was on the A Star is Born train she was heavy into the Prestige Actress looks, but her approach this time feels a bit less pretentious. This is a spectacular look that screams her star status but isn’t particularly challenging. She looks great and for once, we love the matchy silver pumps.

It’s simple and classic in a Cher-ian sort of way but it has no edge or even haute fashion feel to it. Nicole Kidman just wore a similar dress to the CMAs. That’s not a criticism. She’s walking a fine line of using her mega-stardom as a pop star to sell herself once again as a serious actress. Her solution seems to be to wear the full Gaga pop star face and hair while sporting some more or less conventionally glamorous looks from the neck down. We think it works.
