Kim Kardashian wore the ultimate in Covid Couture to the 2021 Met Gala.
A lot of people seemed to take this as some sort of reference to hijabs or other forms of modesty-prescribed clothing worn by some Muslim women, but we honestly don’t think that’s the case here. For one, there’s no part of the shape or style that truly evokes such things. It’s much closer to fetish wear and the designs of drag artist Leigh Bowery, who’s been seeing something of a renewed interest of late. We don’t want to over-analyze this, but if there’s any sort of message or reference here, it’s probably to the idea of anonymity (something she will never enjoy again) and social distancing in the pandemic era. But really, it’s about the same thing all of Kim Kardashian’s red carpet looks are about: attention.
It’s not as interesting as it wants to be, but we respect it for being unexpected.
