The new 007 has been busy this week. Before slaying the No Time to Die world premiere red carpet in Vivienne Westwood, she was unveiling one eye-popping look after another during the pre-premiere press tour. What we love about all of these looks is that they’re not the sort of relaxed looks you might expect from a press tour. Everything here is styled to within an inch of its life and totally red carpet-ready.

To be fair, most of these looks are a bit on the editorial side for red carpet work, but that’s what makes them so great for press interviews, because it’s high-impact fashion. We don’t know what sorcery is at work here to make us like so many pink ruffles on a person at once, but despite our dislike of the style and our extreme dislike of some of the goofier design choices (that bodice gives us migraines if we look too long), she somehow looks amazing in it.

Again, we ask: What magics are at work here? If you’ve read us for more than ten minutes, you’ve probably heard us rail against tricky-ass skirts, of which this one may be offer the trickiest trick yet. It’s overdesigned, in other words. And yet the styling, the posing, the suitability for these pieces – it’s all combining to make a pretty eye-catching fashion moment. She’s getting a lot of mileage out of those stairs, but she’s also really good at working the unworkable. Love the boots.

Design-wise, this is fairly unchallenging, but that color combination is a rough one and she’s still pulling it off. Would he have rec’d red pumps with this? No, but we almost certainly wouldn’t have rec’d the dress in the first place. Clearly, she’s a lady who’s at her style best when she’s pulling off the looks no one else would try.
