A sudden explosion of high French style, thanks to a sprinkling of celebs at the Paris shows and on the Cannes red carpet this week. Once again, we thank the stars for these fashion blessings. These are some fairly filling leftovers, if you know what we mean. Onward, then! To judgment!
AnnaSophia Robb in Giambattista Valli
A cute dress and a fun pair of shoes. We’re just not a hundred percent sure they go together.
Bella Hadid in Vintage Jean Paul Gaultier
Every year, people ask “Why are there models on the Cannes red carpet?” This is why.
Cara Delevingne in Dior
She’s there to model the brand and sit in the front row. This gets the job done, but we wish we could see it a little better. The tailoring looks gorgeous.
Helen Mirren in Carolina Herrera
Hmm. This all feels fussy in a way that doesn’t quite suit her. We don’t love the headband matching the pumps and that skirt clearly doesn’t travel well.
Jessica Chastain in Dior
A really cute look that doesn’t feel like her style at all. She’s doing a good job of modeling it, that’s for sure.
Jessica Chastain in Dior Couture
This is more in line with what we think of when we think of Jessica Chastain’s style. A shame, because this is kind of generic and the shift dress was a pleasant surprise on her.
Jodie Foster in Givenchy
Impeccable, as always.
Maria Bakalova in Grayscale
Well, she sure shut our mouths on the whole “White women should avoid chartreuse” argument. This looks great on her and we LOVE the sandals.
Maria Bakalova in Giorgio Armani
We’re a bit less in love with this look, which comes off heavy, stiff and a little stale.
Monica Bellucci in Dior
Lady, you had us until we got to the footwear. The shades and coat are perfect but you look like you’re wearing men’s socks with heels.
Paz Vega in Elie Saab
We love the little hints here and there that print and pattern are going to be a thing on the red carpet going forward. For the longest time, stylists seemed to steer their clients away from anything but solid or sheer formalwear. It’s fun to see some movement and energy to go along with the glamour and shimmer. She looks great.
Spike Lee in Louis Vuitton
Pure style. Flawlessly presented.
Yara Shahidi in Dior
The suit’s plain, but flawless in its execution. What really makes the look: the fun shoes and amazing hair.
