In a night of unexpectedly high-polish fashion, this may have been the most unexpected look of all:

Although in retrospect, we don’t know why this should come as a surprise, since Miss Cynthia regularly (one might even say exclusively) turns up in some highly unusual, head-turning looks that often look more like sci-fi or fantasy costumes than workable fashion. In fact, there’s a bit of the cosplayer to her fashion approach. If she hadn’t become an actress, we think she might have needed the self-expression a hobby like cosplaying would provide. She clearly loves to look beautifully strange, elegantly odd, glamorously weird. Is there a person other than Cynthia Erivo who could pull this impossible look off and come out looking gorgeous and chic? We doubt it very much. This was dramatic, stunning and unforgettable.

Also, it would have been near impossible to get in and out of a limo in this without breaking an ankle or ruining the dress. Way to take advantage of the sitch, team.
