Cynthia Erivo took her usual bold direction when it came to dressing for the Critics Choice Awards. But in place of the brilliant hues and wild patterns she tends to favor most often was a much darker, borderline goth take that – no surprise here – really suits her.

That’s a wedding gown for when you’re marrying a vampire. Or Batman. We love the vaguely Victorian feel of it. We can understand wanting to avoid going full goth in the makeup and styling, since you don’t want to give the impression this is cosplay rather than fashion, but we think she could’ve easily worked a darker, heavier take to go with the dress. Even so, it’s a gorgeously dramatic, slightly unexpected serve coming from her.
