We’ve done our share of stage wear critiques over the years, although we’d place it below red carpets, drag, and cinematic costume design in terms of our areas of expertise. Of course the lines are blurred almost to non-existence when stagewear is simply something pulled from a designer collection, but we’d argue that all clothing design is based in part on where and by whom it’s intended to be worn.
Anyway, we’re not trying to make too firm a point here; just musing on the differences and similarities because Miss Alicia wore something that straddles the line between stagewear and more editorial fashion design, courtesy of Miss Vera:
Hmmm.
We can’t say we love this, although the reasons for it are perhaps minor and nitpicky. First, the sequined bra looks more like a bikini top. We think it needs a bit more to it in order to look appropriate under a more or less tradition blazer – from the front, at least. We think the whole look comes together much better with the jacket closed. We’re of two minds about the back cutout. On the one hand, we think it’s an awful design element. On the other hand, it gives her the option of serving an un-boring lewk from the position of being slightly hunched over a piano.
