Sometimes, a couple bitchy bloggers need to be thankful for the effort rather than bitchy about the particulars. One thing we’ve lost in the last year, with red carpets disappearing almost entirely and other forms of celebrity promotional venues undergoing massive shifts in setting and expectations, is the occasional display of risk-taking celebrity male style. No Chalamets, no Boseman (sadly), no Lil Nas X or Harry Styles hitting the red carpet or talk show beat. Just the occasional sighting here and there, but for the most part, celebrity male high-fashion risk-taking is dead right now. Or so we thought.

We don’t … love this. We don’t even like it, if we’re being honest. We don’t think those plaids are particularly eye-catching and they definitely don’t go together. But we absolutely respect and appreciate the hell out of it. He doesn’t seem entirely sure of it himself, but he’s giving it his best shot, which is admirable. He almost sold us on it. And let’s face it: if it wasn’t so unexpected, we probably wouldn’t have devoted this much coverage to it. Hard not to see this as a job well done by everybody involved even if the actual ensemble doesn’t really appeal to us.
