Lady Gaga gave an appropriately jaw-dropping rendition of the National Anthem in one of her typically jaw-dropping ensembles. On a day when so many were making quiet fashion statements about unity and history, Miss Woman over here came out in a ball gown, looking for all the world like Wonder Woman ascending the Themysciran throne on her coronation day. It’s a stunning, head-turning, COMPLETELY unusual choice for the occasion, but it’s so perfectly her in so many ways. The dove of peace?  A nice, but completely unsubtle touch. The matching microphone? Exquisite.

Love the braids, girl. We’d have told you to wear red leather gloves, though.
