It’s so funny, but our first reaction to seeing Lily Collins on a red carpet was “We’re so happy for her!” As if it were her wedding day or something. It’s just that she’s been absolutely CRUSHING it on the home front, serving up a pretty impressive succession of lewks from the safety of her home, while promoting Emily in Paris and Mank back to back. Seeing a star work that hard at her promotion-via-fashion efforts made us feel bad for her that she wasn’t getting the high-glamour moments this current phase of her career calls for.

So it’s with no small amount of disappointment, and we regret to inform you, her red carpet look did not set us aflame:

It’s … just okay? Maybe a little generic? Which is an odd thing to say about a skin-tight PVC dress, we admit. We usually like it when she adds a little hardness to her style, since she can go Audrey-twee with practically no effort at all. We’re all for her working something hot with a little edge to it, since we think she’s got a pretty solid knack for such styles. But the dress is a bit of a letdown considering the eye-popping ensembles she’s been sporting on the ‘gram.  The shoes, fussy as they look, are actually pretty fiercely fabulous, but despite this being a full rip straight from the runway, we don’t think they should be paired with that dress. They’re really fighting each other. Are we being too hard on her? After all, there’s a difference between posing in your living room and traveling to a televised event to do it. Since there’s an infinitesimal possibility that we’re being bitches about this, we’ll turn the final call over to y’all:
