Duchess Cathy stepped out to chat with university students about how they’re getting by in these uncertain times – and y’know? We think she just may have unveiled a slightly new sort of look for herself.
Nothing radical, of course. Nothing too far outside the royal box, so to speak. But the combination of slouchy tweed coat (so very on point for the setting) and cashmere crew neck sweater paired with a high-waisted pant – it all feels a little…freshened up. Crisply casual, if that makes any sense. Almost business-like, but just a little too stylish to be considered standard.
Not to step too far into it, but we think the Meghan & Harry drama and the pandemic happening back to back have contributed to her taking a look at her role in a more approachable, casual sort of way and it’s reflected in some of the style choices she’s made this year, both on Zoom and in her socially distanced public appearances. The times call for an approach that says she’s not here to be worshipped but she wants to ensure that she’s paying respect to the people she’s visiting. We have no doubt she’ll be back to dress coats and tiaras when the occasion warrants it, but she’s settled on a nice middle road of stylish casual daywear perfect for the current demands of her role. And it looks great on her, of course.
