Even if he wasn’t leaving the house, there was no way Mr. Porter was going to let the occasion of the Emmys pass without working something sickening for the cameras. In perfect 2020 fashion, it was relatively low-key. Or rather, low-key as defined by Billy Porter.
It’s a gorgeous suit but – and let’s just pause here to note this will mark the first time we’ve ever written the following about a male celebrity’s red carpet look – the white train makes it feel like he’s getting married. Fabulously queerly married to be sure, but it definitely feels like he should be standing under a flower arch facing his soon-to-be husband. We love the design and the way he has it styled, so we tend to think it would feel less matrimonial had it been rendered in almost any color but white. Or maybe keep the white suit and render the wrap and train in black or another color. We’re definitely making too much of an issue of it, though. Wedding-wear or not, it’s still gorgeous and the jewelry is stunning.
