The word that springs to our minds first when we think of Christopher John Rogers is “green.” Not because he’s 26 years old or because he’s an up-and-comer. Certainly not as an implication that he’s untested or unformed. Quite the opposite, in fact. You see, the first time we noticed his work was when Tessa Thompson wore one of his exuberant dresses on Jimmy Kimmel when she was promoting Creed II:

The next time we sat up and paid attention was when Lizzo wore him to the 2019 MTV Movie and TV Awards:

The THIRD time he really caught our eye was when Lil Nas X wore him to the 2019 American Music Awards:

What can we say? The dude really loves a bold, bright green in his designs, clearly. But just because our first exposures to his work all worked in the same color story doesn’t mean he restricts himself to it. Quite the opposite: this designer loves ALL the colors – which is good, because a bold palette works really well with the kind of exuberant designs he favors. Tracee Ellis Ross sported this massive plum confection to the NAACP Awards this past February:

As well as this over-the-top pink fantasy in September:

Clearly, a lot of Black celebrities were feeling his stuff right from the jump. He’s also been worn by Cardi B, Michelle Obama, and Rihanna.

Baton Rouge-born Christopher John Rogers is a SCAD graduate, a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner and was named one of the New Faces of Fashion by IMG. He got his start at Diane Von Furstenberg, but has made his name in the past few seasons with a series of exuberant, colorful, celebratory fashion that explodes with youthfulness and feels like it’s just looking for the next party to start.
