You heard us! It’s the very first LIVE (which just means recorded in front of an audience in this instance) Pop Style Opinionfest! As part of our book tour, the lovely folks at Housing Works Books in New York invited us to come on over and set a spell as we talk all things drag and queer. Even better, the legendary Marti Gould Cummings graced us with their presence and co-hosted the event with us. Marti is spotlighted briefly in the book (something they didn’t know about until recently and for which they were genuinely touched and grateful) as an Upcoming Legendary Child, not just because they went viral last year lip-syncing “Baby Shark” to a little boy at a drag brunch:

But also because they’re pushing drag into the 21st Century by melding it with politics. Marti is making history as the first drag queen to run for New York City Council after years of political advocacy and organizing. Spend five minutes with them and you can tell you’re in the presence of a gifted, polished, and most importantly, passionate politician. We had so much fun chatting with them about drag, Drag Race, queer history and queer culture. Also: Tom cries on mic! No, really!
It’s a fun, raucous, informative and emotional hour – and it’s literally everything we ever wanted for this podcast and this book. The sound quality’s not the best, but you’ll feel like you were there with us, kittens.
