Miss Yara gives us something to talk about.
While we expect and desire to see more extreme and experimental fashion on the CFDA Awards red carpet, that doesn’t mean any of the lewks are above an assessment or two. This is a relatively simple look with a lot going on. First, her gorgeous braids were an homage to Diana Ross in Mahogany. No critiques or complaints there. Everything from the neck up is gorgeous. Everything below that? Random. Unfocused. At least that’s our impression. We like and celebrate incongruities in fashion and Monse tends to be especially good at them. You could even say it’s their brand. But the style and shape of those pants neither marries well with the top nor enhances it by forming a sharp juxtaposition. It’s one of those outfits where the wearer looks like they’re trying on items in a dressing room. It doesn’t help that she finished it off with plastic shoes. Or that the print isn’t really all that attractive.
Are we being harsh? Is this coolly envelope-pushing to you or does it look like a bunch of random, low-glamour elements thrown together? In other words…
