Style File: Charlize Theron Out and About in NYC

Miss Charlize has got herself a rom-com to promote (which we reviewed here), so girlfriend’s been out all week, doing the damn work. As much as we’ve loved her red carpetry for this tour, her publicity looks are a little spottier. No pun intended.

This feels like “classic” Charlize, if there even is such a thing. Some sort of Dior, a pair of booties, and a distinct lack of fuss. We still don’t love those D belts. The dress is cute. It feels like her makeup has been a bit severe on this tour, but we’ve been loving the severe hair and strong lip action.

This, on the other hand, feels like a bunch of random items thrown together. The shape of the skirt and the proportions of the jacket and sweater (sleeves too short, waist hitting at a not-optimal spot) are making her look awfully blocky. Honestly, the skirt doesn’t look like it goes with the rest of it at all. The bottom half needed to be slim pants or leggings. Those lips are PINK AS HELL. It’s not a bad color, but they really pop out over that slightly dowdy look.

We suspect the top is slightly more sheer than she planned – although she was never shy about sporting a public bra. We … think? This works? The sparkle and the rich navy blue look great. The turtleneck and weird pants flounce or whatever that half-skirt thing is? Not so much. Love the shoes, but they’re really distracting with the dark blue.
