We don’t subject talk show outfits to “IN or OUT?” votes because it turns a conversation (albeit a highly staged and self-promoting one) into a fashion show, which even we have to admit isn’t right. A red carpet literally is a fashion show but a talk show appearance is foremost about the ability of stars to comfortably project themselves and promote themselves. Yes, the fashion matters and we have no problem offering our thoughts on whether it works, but we don’t know… we’d just feel weird reducing a talk show appearance down to a vote on style.
Having said all that, are we nuts for loving this?
It’s a neon yellow leopard print velvet dress with padded shoulders and a turtleneck. That’s a description that does not lend itself to thoughts of chicness or high style. But she has a real knack for working bold-to-the-point-of-obnoxious fashion. We’re not sure why she insists on wearing cold weather styles in May, but as fashion that needs to be telegenic, memorable, and flattering (the trifecta of good talk show style), this checks off all the boxes. We’re not a hundred percent on the booties – again, it’s May – but she is crushing that dress. It would overwhelm so many other wearers.
