That is what you call a goddamn FASHION MOMENT, people. It is also what you call a tribute to Elizabeth Taylor; specifically the head dress she wore in her 1968 film with Richard Burton, Boom!

Now Miss Elizabeth, who we actually had the great joy and privilege to write about in our book (ahem), was definitely a Camp Goddess and we’d rate this film as well as this look as moments of high camp in the culture. It’s a great reference and we salute both Tom Ford and Gemma for making it.

But this is a beautiful and conventionally chic look with an homage to a moment of camp without actually being camp itself. And honestly? We have no problem with that. It seems to us it’s a valid way to stay within the theme for a celebrity as well as a designer who both prefer to keep things chic and stylish and never lean toward outrageousness. It helps that she looks drop-dead gorgeous.
