Met Gala 2019: Cutest Couples at the Fashion Prom

A salute, darlings! To those happy duos who breathed a sigh of relief that they had someone to lean on and share the grueling red carpet duties of the Met Gala together. Some of these folks really tried it and some of them … didn’t.

This is fun, self-serious, and vaguely mocking British camp in clothing form. If all the American guests spent the night wondering if the Cumberbatch-Hunters were mocking them, then they did it right.

They really do look great – although we question his black loafers.

We don’t know what’s going on here.

Nor here. Although we did say on the twitters that if the two of them suddenly launched into an extended interpretive dance right there on the Met Gala, not only would they have hit the camp brief, but their outfits would’ve made more sense. We like her look. We just don’t get his.

Where is our Wrecking Ball-era Miley? That gal knew from camp. This gal looks like she’s in a L’Eggs commercial.

Okay, here’s what: We are officially tired of talking about what’s camp and what’s not, but looks like these give the impression that the wearers thought it meant to just dress weird and clowny. We’re sure there’s probably some meaning behind these looks, but if you’re truly dressing in a camp way, we shouldn’t be sitting her wondering what the point is. Camp is many things but inscrutable it’s not.

She’s bringing some big, loud draggy fabulosity and making sure her own personality peeks through (check the kicks). We don’t love this on its own merits, but we think it works for her and what she was trying to accomplish. He’s … dressed appropriately.

Total resting-on-pretty. At the Met Gala. Anna should have had them arrested on the spot.
