Mr. and Mrs. Spider-Man worked the crowd for the latest trailer launch for Spider-Man: Brand New Day in Amsterdam. We’re afraid stylist Law Roach is not taking the correct approach with these two.
TOM HOLLAND IN BALENCIAGA

No. This is just dumb as hell, Tom. There are shirts and there are jackets and there are even shirt jackets, but you can’t just wear a dress shirt over another dress shirt like this. Well, technically you can, but we’re all going to judge you and wonder about your lack of common sense. We honestly can’t get over how stupid this looks. Stylists, when you start having insane ideas like this, take a step back, please.

ZENDAYA IN MCQUEEN

And while we’re at it, we’d like to suggest that Zendaya’s approach isn’t working for us either. There’s this sort of Prestige Actress vibe to how Law Roach is styling her for this tour and we don’t think it works for the project being promoted, let alone for relatively low-rent promotional events like this one. It’s literally just a trailer launch, people. Simmer down. There’s also the weird fact of her wearing a tweed coat in June. It’s a nice enough look overall, but we question the approach.

The thing is, they’re in the interesting position of promoting their fourth franchise installment, which might normally inspire either a goofy over-the-top approach or a bored, low-key one, but they’re kind of also promoting themselves as a newly married couple, which might explain why they’re both struggling a little with the formality and dressiness. While we don’t think everything she’s worn is particularly chic, we think Milly Alcock’s approach to promoting Supergirl makes more sense for this moment. This genre is very tired, even if the film’s still make a lot of money. Best to play up the fun and silliness instead of your status as the world’s favorite celebrity couple.
ABOUT THE MOVIE:
After the record-breaking global success of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.
