The Blunt-Krasinskis aren’t going to have the 2019 Oscar night they’d hoped for, but you couldn’t tell by looking at Miss Emily’s dress choice for the MPR Tokyo premiere. Miss Woman was not half-assing things for the occasion.

It’s a lot, though. Glamorous Whimsy is definitely a viable and appropriate style direction for promoting a Mary Poppins movie, but there’s simply too much going on here for the effect to really work. We like all the jewelry-like embellishment in the neckline, but you can’t have that much going on visually and expect a pair of accentuated shoulders and a peplum to fight with it. Get rid of those elements and fastly simplify the beading on the skirt and this might come off chic. As it is, it just looks heavy, stiff and overdone.

She must have hated it when they handed her that umbrella to model.
