We cannot.

Trust us, we really want to, because a huge part of us can’t help but be impressed by a former FLOTUS making such an outrageously bold set of fashion choices. The look gains our respect, but not a bit of our love. Well. That’s not entirely true because we think the boots are fierce on a level that can’t be measured. But that horrible choir robe is quite frankly one of the worst things she has ever worn. The color is harsh and unflattering, the satin is unforgiving, and the shape and design of it completely distorts her body. Don’t take our word for it. Just look at her body language. Any time a non-pregnant woman spends that much time and energy touching and covering her mid-section, it’s a dead giveaway that she’s not feeling comfortable in her garment. It’s a garment that makes her look the one thing we’d never have claimed of her before: self-conscious. That is so not the Shelley O we know. Those boots deserve better. She deserves better.

SJP, on the other hand, quietly nailed her look. That purple looks fantastic on her and she managed just enough glamour to distinguish herself on stage without upstaging the main attraction.
