Darlings, you can’t possibly be surprised at this turn of events. Two of the biggest gowns of the season on two of the biggest blockbuster premieres of the season. Even better: they couldn’t possibly be more different in style and tone.
Lo’s Defense: The more I look at this, the more I fall in love with it. At first I thought it might have been too simple, but I’m starting to think that this was a really brilliant way to go. It’s romantic and has an old-school quality to it; two qualities that make it perfect for this premiere. But it’s also stark and memorable in an unexpected way. It doesn’t have the whimsy you’d expect for a film premiere like this one, but it makes up for that with volume, shape and drama. Traditional but bold. And her hair and earrings are gorgeous.
T’s Defense: I definitely picked the harder one to sell, but I adore this look for being everything Emily’s isn’t. It’s completely unexpected and unlike anything anyone’s seen on a red carpet in recent memory. It pushes the envelope just a bit and gives the public an image they can’t stop discussing. In other words, it’s a red carpet look meant to go viral. The silhouette is challenging and the fabric is loudly upholstery-like. But the idea of doing a couture version of swimwear for an Aquaman movie premiere is pretty savvy and just a little witty. It’s high-fashion promo work meant to get everyone talking. Like it or not, Miss Woman nailed the brief on this one.
Two very different takes on two BIGASS gowns! Which way will this one go, darlings!
